This one isn’t for the lovers

So, Valentines day is just around the corner and I have to admit, although I am loved up, the whole commercialism around Valentines day really annoys me. So I thought I’d be a little rebel and do a little ‘anti-valentines’ blog. I don’t want to be too negative about it, so my spin on this is going to simply be – great songs that aren’t romantic! I’ve chosen three of my favourites and have put together an awsome playlist which is full of non-romantic songs for you to enjoy!

My first song has to be by one of my favourite artists ever. Alanis Morissette. I went to see her live last year and it was one of the most memorable gigs of my life. What a legend. This tune is the ultimate break up song.

This track by The Black Keys is such a winner. The video makes me so happy too. Being a lonely boy doesn’t have to be lonely!

And lastly – a winner of a pop track from Katy Perry. For me this song is all about self love and bring proud of who you are. GO ON KATY. Romance doesn’t have to be with another person – just be your own firework!

Music for your Wedding Ceremony

Lets talk about your Wedding Ceremony. Make it special by adding some LIVE music – don’t know where to start? I’m bursting with ideas and have laid them out for you below.

String Ensemble / String Quartet – Such a grand way to start your wedding. Not only can our musicians play classical songs to walk you down the aisle such as Mendelssohn’s ‘Wedding March’, but pop songs too…imagine walking out to Stevie Wonder’s, ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ or Elvis Presley’s, ‘Pledging My Love’ . WHAT A FEELING!!

Harpist – Is there anything that can beat the classical sound of a beautiful harp? I’m being a little bias here as Tom played me down the aisle at my wedding – but it has to be the most romantic option to go for. He played as guests entered the room, as I walked down the aisle, then as we signed the register and again as guests walked out. ARHG…even writing it down brings back beautiful memories.

Roaming Band – Imagine this…three or four chaps sitting on seats at the back , suited, booted, just like any other guest, then BOOM…out of nowhere as the bride walks down the aisle they pop up and play your chosen song – not only with the most beautiful harmonies you have ever heard, but with smiles that can’t help to make your day even more special. Follow this up by them performing during the signing of the register and then as your guests leave, is has to be THE BEST start entertainment/live music wise to a wedding there ever was. Absolutely perfect for outdoor ceremony’s like Marianne and Ray’s below.

Acoustic Solo Guitarist / Singer – One of our most popular options is to book Jay for the ceremony and afternoon reception as solo performer and then the full band, Rocking Steady, for the evening reception. Jay simply has the most awesome voice. If you are wanting contemporary songs playing during your ceremony he is the perfect choice. Imagine walking in with him singing Jason Mrazs’ ‘I’m Yours’ and while you are signing the register performing songs such as Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking out Loud’ and Al Green’s ‘Lets Stay Together’.

Flamenco Guitarist – David needs no introduction. HE IS INSANELY GOOD when it comes to playing guitar. He plays a mixture of styles from traditional classical Spanish repertoire, well-known pop songs arranged for solo guitar to passionate and energetic flamenco. Perfect background music for not only the ceremony, but the drinks reception and wedding breakfast too.

Brass Band – Oompah Brass went down a STORM at Jane and Tom’s Wedding. They played as guests were seated, as the bride walked down the aisle, as the register was being signed and then as guests left. The band hung around to play in the drinks reception after the ceremony and were epic. Such a quirky option to go for if you are looking for something a little different .

Wedding Band, Party Band, Corporate Entertainment or Unique Performers – The ins and outs of booking with Lemon Entertainment

So, you’re organising a party, a wedding or a corporate event and you’ve decided (quite rightly) that booking quality entertainment makes the difference between a stand out event or a forgettable one. You want some inspiration. Your friend tells you to head to and there, you spot THE BEST BAND EVER. You know it, you have to them – your guests will never forget such amazing musicians, the dance floor will be full all night and their repertoire is exactly to your taste. What now?

Firstly – I’d love to hear from you. If you prefer to chat on the phone give me a call and if an email is more your style hit that send button. Click here if you’d like to read more about who is behind the phone/email. Things you might like to ask me are; are they available? how much will they be? can they learn my favourite song if they don’t already know it? What do they wear? Can they set up earlier in the day? Do they bring lights? What are they like? What other events have they played? Have any of the members toured with big names? Can the band also DJ or do I need to get a DJ in too?

In order for me to give you a quote I will need to know the date of the event, location, rough timings and the number of guests you have coming. I will get back to you in record speed – usually within the hour. I pride myself in a personal, professional and fast service for my clients.

Once you have all the information you need, booking is a really simple process. To secure the date you need to do two things. Firstly I send a contract detailing the agreement, this needs to be signed and a deposit paid. Once this is done your booking is secure, the entertainment is yours and you are one step closer to having THE BEST NIGHT EVER. The remainder of the fee is due a month before your event. It’s that easy.

If you’d like to talk to the band directly in the lead up to the event they are happy to chat on the phone . If you want to meet for a coffee we can arrange this, but there will be a consultation charge.

All of our performers are extremely experienced and reading the crowd is their forte, so you can be sure that they will deliver a first class set on the night. Each event is different and I always recommend that clients make a list of any songs in particular they want the band (or DJ) to include in their set – if it’s a wedding perhaps its a song that means a lot to you (for me it would have to be something by Ryan Adams), or if it’s a Corporate party perhaps a song you and your colleagues like to play in the office on the countdown to a Friday afternoon (how about Cydni Lauper’s, Girls Just Want To Have Fun?).

When it comes to booking through Lemon Entertainment It’s simple really – it’s quick, easy and you are always guaranteed first class service and performance.

The Wedding Industry Awards

I have entered one of our most popular Wedding Bands into the well respected Wedding Industry Awards (TWIA). Rocking Steady are constantly getting unbelievable feedback from clients and I thought it was about time these guys got some recognition from the Wedding Industry! This band is one of the hardest working bands I have ever met (and I’ve met hundreds). Jay, who leads the band is not only massively talented but is one of the sharpest, most professional and most competent people, I have had the pleasure of working with. Only brides and grooms that booked the band for their wedding between the 25.10.16 and 23.10.17 are eligible to vote and its just one vote per couple. This is SO exciting for us and I will be personally contacting our brides and grooms that can vote so that the band can get the recognition they deserve. We have been entered into the Regional Awards for The South East – watch this space for news and awards ceremonies!

Rocking Steady provided two hours of the most amazing entertainment it has been my privilege to witness. The musicianship was superb, their playing was excellent: all the girls (both married and single) wanted to take them home, they were gracious and charming and should the occasion ever arise when we would need a band they would be without hesitation my first choice.

“Where words fail, m u s i c speaks”

Music is so much more than just some words, on a line, in a song.
It’s emotions and memories. People and p l a c e s.

It allows you to connect + relate to others in a way you can only feel.
Something I could easily compare to as pure m a g i c.

I want to know what music means to you.
How does it make you feel? What has music done for you?
